Thursday Night Football Preview

Packers(0-0) @ Bears(0-0)

It’s finally here! Year 100 in the NFL Kicks Off with a legendary rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, which should be a fun one to watch. There are plenty of story lines in this one, with a Coach making his debut, a young Quarterback looking to take the leap, and a veteran looking to show he still has it. 8:20pm ET can’t come soon enough!

When the Packers have the ball: QB Aaron Rodgers vs. S Eddie Jackson. We all know that A-Rod loves to take shots down field, and luckily for the Bears, they have an All-Pro Safety lurking in their secondary. Jackson was an absolute Ball hawk last season, and finished the year with 6 interceptions. Aaron Rodgers was 22-61 last season, with 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions on passes over 20 yards. Something will give tonight.

When the Bears have the ball: Bears RB’s vs. LB Blake Martinez. Martinez has been a tackling machine for the Packers defense the last two years, racking up 288 tackles, but he will have his hands full with Tarik Cohen, Mike Davis, and David Montgomery. If the Packers can slow down the run game, they’re odds drastically improve. If the Bears can run the ball with success, I like them walking away with the W tonight.

How they win

Green Bay Packers: The Packers cannot afford a slow start in this one. If they can score early and force Mitch Trubisky to lead his team back, it will certainly be beneficial. If they fall down early, Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd will be pinning their ears back and hunting. I think they need to have a hot start, get a two possession lead, and take the capacity crowd at Soldier Field out of it.

Chicago Bears: The Bears have a potential two-headed monster at the running back position with Tarik Cohen & Rookie David Montgomery, and they will be key in tonight’s game. The less time that Aaron Rodgers is on the field, the more likely the Bears come away with the victory. Run the ball, convert on third and short, and keep the future Hall of Famer on the sideline wearing a baseball cap. Trubisky should also be able to have some success against this Packers defense, but a successful run game is key to victory tonight.

Prediction: The Packers will take some time to hit their stride on Offense in my opinion. The Bears just have too much on defense right now, and I think they will find a way to slow down the Packers. Bears 27, Packers 23
